Your Worst Ad Might Be Your Best

Alexander Peet |

My least favorite ad I've ever made just became a client's highest-spend creative.

4.18 ROAS. €52 CPA against their internal benchmark of €95. Scaled 2.4x over the next-best asset in the portfolio.

The client is a premium European health tech brand. Smartwatches and connected scales. Their internal creative was clean; product shots, data-heavy messaging, polished.

It wasn't working.

The ad that won was simple. A creator wearing the watch on a yoga mat. Gold watch, manicured nails, natural light. Half a second and you know: this is for premium wellness people, not gym bros with Fitbits.

No specs, no feature comparison. Just context that lets the viewer see themselves in it.

I almost didn't ship it because I thought it was too basic. But it turns out basic was the point.

The market doesn't care if you agonized over the edit. It cares if the hook stops the scroll and the product fits the viewer's self-image.

Your taste isn't the audience's taste. Ship it. Test it. Let the data decide.
